THE 2008 NATIONAL ORDER OF QUEBEC

Leonard Cohen a grandi à Westmount. Très tôt, il s’est passionné pour les écritures littéraire et musicale. Bien que son œuvre l’ait mené aux quatre coins de la planète, il a toujours maintenu un pied-à-terre dans le quartier portugais de Montréal. Sa poésie et ses chansons ont influencé nombre d’auteurs-compositeurs-interprètes. On compte à l'heure actuelle plus de 1200 reprises de ses chansons, dont beaucoup ont été interprétées, et parfois traduites dans d'autres langues, par des artistes connus. M. Cohen a toujours célébré ses racines juives et montréalaises, affichant un respect sans détours pour la spécificité culturelle et linguistique du Québec. En 2007, il a publié Book of Longing, recueil de poèmes repris en français sous le titre Livre du désir constant.

Leonard Cohen grew up in Westmount. Soon, he was passionate for literary and musical writings. Although his work has led him to the four corners of the planet, he has always maintained a home in the Portuguese district of Montreal. His poetry and his songs have influenced many singer/songwriters. There are currently more than 1200 renditions of his songs, many of which have been interpreted, and sometimes translated into other languages by well-known artists. Cohen has always celebrated his Jewish and Montreal roots, showing respect without detours for the cultural and linguistic specificity of Quebec. In 2007, he published Book of Longing, a collection of poems released in French under the title Book of Constant Desire.
